  3.                          Startup/Shutdown logos in Win98/98SE

  5. (Tested under WINDOWS98SE condition)

  7. When a computer with Win98 boots up, its start up splash image is displayed. Also when it shuts
  8. down, the two images are displayed 1)Windows is shutting down 2)It's now safe to turn off your
  9. computer.
  10.  
  11. (NOTE-Second is not for ATX computer.)
  12.  
  13. These images cannot be easily changed, but wiser like you can change them easily!
  14.  
  15. These special images are in following folders.
  16.  
  17.     Type                     Name                Location      Attribute             
  18.  1) Startup image            logo.sys            c:\           Hidden, Read only
  19.  2) Shutting down iamge      logow.sys           c:\windows    Hidden    
  20.  3) It's now safe to
  21.     turn off your computer   logos.sys

  23. If you are doing this for first time, logo.sys does not exist.
  24.  
  25. Though these images are ends with sys extession, images are in 
  26. standard Windows Bitmap Format (*.bmp)
  27.  
  28. Information of all above images:
  29.  
  30.   Dimensions      320*400 pixels
  31.   Pixels/inch
  32.   (Resolution)    72
  33.   Colors          256
  34.  
  35. Though these images are 320 pixels are in width, they are strectched to 640 pixels in windows 
  36. operations.(startup/shutdown)
  37.  
  38. ***You can browse through these files only when folder options are set to show all files.
  39.    Folder options can be changed in C:\ window's MENU > View > Folder options

  42. ****CAUTION*****-You must copy above files, before changing them.

  44. 1)Changing Startup Logo
  45.     1.You can use your favourite image editor(or Jasc Paint Shop Pro 6 like me)
  46.     2.Create new image with 640x400 pixels with 256 colors and 72 pixels/inch.
  47.     3.Edit it with your own way(create backgroud, add texts cliparts, etc.)
  48.     4.After editing resize it to 320x400 pixels (or stretch width by 50%)
  49.     4.Save it with name start.bmp with plain windows BMP format.
  50.     5.You can manually copy it as c:\logo.sys. But it is more difficult as this file is hidden.
  51.       You can use the XrX's logo utiliy which is provided by me. Start the software, press Load,
  52.       Locate your image file, the file will get loaded. Then press install, select Startup logo
  53.       option. Press OK. All done! Start up logo is changed.

  55. 2)Changing "Shutting down(please wait)" logo
  56.     Do above 4 steps. In 4th step save, as different name but in same format.
  57.     Start XrX's logo utility. Load the saved image. Press install. Choose option "please wait 
  58.     logo" and press OK. All done!

  60. 3)Changing "It's now safe to turn off your computer" logo
  61.     Do above 4 steps. In 4th step, save as different name but in same format.
  62.     Start XrX's logo utility. Load the saved image. Press install. Choose option "OK to Shutdown
  63.     Logo" and press OK. All done!

  65. **NOTE=XrX addbar is also same utility which has additional feature to add animated bar like win's
  66.        original startup logo.******
